The Johan Cruijff ArenA is located on the north side of the ArenA Boulevard and is about 200 meters from Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA Station. The stadium is the largest stadium in the Netherlands with more than 50,000 seats. Since 1996, the Johan Cruijff ArenA has been home to the AFC Ajax football club. The stands in the ArenA are the fourth steepest in Europe with a 37 degree slope. For the 2018-2019 football season, the Johan Cruijff ArenA was called the Amsterdam ArenA. The stadium is also used for, among other things, music performances. Phil Collins, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Madonna and Coldplay have performed in the ArenA.

Johan Cruijff ArenA: Design

The Johan Cruijff ArenA was opened in 1996. The building was designed by architect Rob Schuurman, who mainly works with associations. In artificial light in particular, the building has the appearance of a flying saucer and the stairwells are connected diagonally, which resembles football shoe laces. The roof can be opened or closed in 18 minutes and weighs 520 tons.
